This 6-hour National Safety Council course is a "classroom" program. The Michigan Secretary of State will not make the points or information from the ticket available to insurance companies for drivers who successfully complete the BDIC. This course serves as a refresher of basic traffic safty principals and can improve safety for all Michigan drivers. The Secretary of State will notify eligible drivers, who will have 60 days to arrange and successfully complete the BDIC. The Secretary of State will be notified of the course results. The fee for this course is $75.

DEFENSIVE DRIVING COURSE (DDC)
This 8-hour National Safety Council class is for any non-alcohol-related traffic offense. This class is designed for both the inexperienced driver, as well as the driver who has had many years on the road. Recommended for persons who may not understand the simple rules of driving, or may need a review, or who may have been recently involved in a collision.
ATTITUDINAL DYNAMICS OF DRIVING COURSE (ADD)
This National Safety Council class is for persons with multiple offenses and/or poor driving history; may have attended prior driving classes and/or may display a poor driving attitude. This class is especially recommended for the individual who drives on a suspended or revoked license, improper plates, or no proof of insurance. For risk-taking persons who continually disregard the driving laws.
DRIVER EFFICIENCY EVALUATION PROGRAM (DEEP)
This is a one-on-one program is designed to evaluate the driving skills of persons with bad driving records. Any problem areas will be determined and an action plan can be set in motion, making the person aware of any driving weaknesses and to assist them in determining what may be done to improve their skills and become a safe and successful driver.
The program consists of an Initial Interview to determine if the driver has insight why they were referred to this program, a cognitive evaluation to determine the ability to organize and react to traffic information, and a detailed analysis of their driving record. An actual Driver Skill Evaluation in their own vehicle will demonstrate their ability to drive safely over a predetermined route in a variety of situations; the examiner will observe and score the driver on specific maneuvers, as well as on general driving behavior. A Final Assessment will discuss the results of the Initial Interview and Driver Skill Evaluation with the driver. Any problem areas will be discussed and an action plan put in place, which will be used to improve their driving skills. They will be made aware of any recommendations made to the court.
ALCOHOL HIGHWAY SAFETY PROGRAM (AHSP)

Level I
This class is for a person with any alcohol-related first-time offense. Developed to have a positive, direct impact on alcohol-involved traffic violators. A ten-hour educational program offering basic information about alcohol, how it affects the human body, the disease process of alcoholism, and up-to-date drinking and driving laws.
Level II
This AWARE (Advanced Workshop in Alcohol-Related Education) is for a person with multiple alcohol offenses and/or may have had previous treatment, counseling, or educational classes providing advanced, in-depth education about the implications of drunk driving, the physiological damages caused by alcohol, the risk factors for developing alcoholism, and the effects of alcoholism on family life and employment.
YOUNG ADULT PROGRAM (YAP)
This program provides the same information as the Level I program and is appropriate for charges such as underage drinking, open intoxicants, and being drunk and disorderly.
DRUG AWARENESS PROGRAM (DAP)
This class is for a person with a first-time misdemeanor drug offense such as possession of narcotics or drug paraphernalia, or frequenting a place where narcotics are present. Teaches the potential dangers involved in using drugs, life skill development, self awareness, warning signals of addiction, and facts regarding drug laws.
FINAL INTERVIEWS are conducted for the AHSP Level I, Level II, Young Adult and Drug Awareness Programs with a professional interviewer providing the person a chance to review the information that has been presented. The person's own indicators will be discussed and a recommendation for further treatment, if any, is made by the interviewer.
YOUTH-EDUCATION-SUCCESS (YES)
This program was designed to deal with young people ages 14-18 who have entered the legal system for a variety of reasons such as "Minor in Possession", "Loitering", "Domestic Violence", "Possession of Narcotics Paraphernalia", "Possession of Tobacco", etc. The goal of the YES program is to help the student understand how to avoid future inappropriate decisions which will help them avoid the legal system, cope with peer pressure and communicate with their parents. Emphasis is placed on building self esteem, setting and achieving goals, and effectively dealing with pressure.
FORUM FOR ALTERNATIVE THEFT-OFFENDER EDUCATION (FATE)
For a person with a first-time theft offense (retail fraud, misdemeanor larcenies, and misdemeanor embezzlements). Our aim is to help deter an individual from becoming a professional shoplifter. A non-threatening format to provide information, review Michigan criminal and civil laws regarding shoplifting, encourage self assessment, stimulate thought and provide the impetus for change on the part of the individual. High recidivism candidates would be outside the scope of this program.
ANGER MANAGEMENT PROGRAM (ANG)

This program is designed to address the issue of inappropriate and unlawful responses to anger. The goal is to provide participants with healthy, non-violent alternatives in dealing with and expressing negative feelings. The program will address the origins and triggers of anger, the physical and mental changes that accompany anger, learning styles, basic human needs and provide a safe, non-judgmental environment in which participants can explore their thoughts and feelings.
TOBACCO AWARENESS PROGRAM (TAP)
This program is for young people who were found to be in possession of tobacco products. the goal of this program is to help them understand the hazards and dangers of tobacco use, not only as it relates to long term effects, but getting them to understand current health effects, their personal image, and legal consequences of using tobacco.
